Housing

Since 2006, our team has been committed to raising 50-orphaned children. The housemothers have done the hard work, caring for the daily needs of their charges in their homes: preparing meals, encouraging studies, overseeing chores, and dispensing hugs and laughter. Our Home Manager and local Board of Governors have ensured that the building was maintained, reports were filed, and bills were paid.
Now that our children are becoming young adults, we are shifting to a home-stay model, where our kids come back to the Cura community, but not to the group facility that served as their childhood home. Our Board of Governors and the generous support of the ACK Mount Kenya South Diocese ensure that the welfare of our young people is supervised by a licensed social worker and Home Manager.

Youth Education

As of 2020, all of our young people will have progressed out of primary school and into their secondary and post-secondary educational lives. Some of our students currently attend Cura Secondary School, a legacy gift to the community that donors like you helped us build in 2012, and others have achieved marks that earned them places in regional day- and boarding-schools. We are committed to removing tuition and materials costs as a barrier to attendance at the best schools that offer them enrollment, and we work to ensure that each student gets to participate in meaningful co-curricular programming. Our eldest students are also now exiting high school and enrolling at colleges, universities, apprenticeships and training programs, where they are working toward their dreams of employment and independence. Donors like you help us provide the kind of guidance and life-skills training they need, as well as the funds for tuition and their transition from being students to being self-sufficient adults.

Your contributions help support the education of our students at every level.

Community Health

Our Clinic provides local, low-cost, basic health care for the entire Cura community. All of our children have received their vaccines and treatments from our onsite Clinic team which includes a full time nurse, lab technologist, and office manager. These women provide essential services to local families who also seek out vaccinations, basic testing, pre-natal care and much more. In an effort to better serve the community, the Clinic developed a small dispensary for the sale of over-the-counter items, and hosted occasional educational events on subjects like nutrition and sanitation.
Though the Clinic is financially self-sustaining for its ongoing needs, we occasionally support their work with grants that help expeand services and purchase much-needed equipment that increases its positive impact in Cura. If you are interested in partnering with
us or donating to support the Clinic’s work, please contact us at hayden4cura@gmail.com

Austin's Kitchen Garden

In 2015, a generous donor launched a campaign to honor the memory of her son Austin, to fund essential farming infrastructure on the plot of land adjacent to our Home. With water tanks, a drip-irrigation system, equipment and seedlings, Austin's Kitchen Garden was born!
Produce from this garden provides healthy, organically grown fruits and vegetables to supplement our children's meals, and our mothers sell extra produce at the market to supplement the Home's budget.
Your contributions to this project will help our team ensure that the Garden continues to produce healthy food for our kids and other community members.
